Auf Wiedersehen, Pet actress Maya Woolfe has sadly died.
Fans of the star have paid tribute, remembering her for delivering “the best quote in Series 1”, reports the Mirror.
The official social media channels for Auf Wiedersehen, Pet confirmed her death on Friday afternoon. Announcing that the actress had passed away at the age of 72.
Maya was best known for her role as Uli in episode 11 of the first series of the ITV comedy-drama, which follows a group of North East construction workers. She also appeared in several popular shows including BBC’s Doctor Who, where she played a receptionist.
The statement released read: “With sadness we announce the passing of Maya Woolfe who played Uli in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet Series 1, Episode 11, ‘The Lovers’. Maya’s many TV appearances included ‘The Professionals’, ‘Bergerac’, and ‘Doctor Who’. We send our deepest sympathy to family and friends at this difficult time.”
The the memorable episode ‘The Lovers’, which aired back in January 1984, Maya’s character Uli becomes the love interest of Oz Osborne, portrayed by Jimmy Nail, after Wayne Norris, played by Gary Holton, mistakenly identifies him as a wealthy tycoon’s son.
Fans have reminisced about her inocnic line in a scene with Oz at the posh bar, The Tivoli, following the sad news of Maya’s death.
During their date, when discussing Oz’s supposed inheritance of his father’s ‘business empire’, Uli asks: “In the meantime you are just one of the boys? ” leading to Oz’s classic retort: “Look again, pet. One of the men.”
Fans have been quoting a unforgettable line from the script in their touching tributes to Maya, with one fan declaring it as “the best quote in Series 1”: “Part of the best quote in Series 1: Uli: ‘so until then, you are just one of the boys? ‘ Oz: ‘look again Pet, one of the men’.”
Others took to social media to express their sorrow with messages like, “Sad news. One of the best ever episodes.” While another lamented the loss by saying, “Sad loss, she played her roll very well.”
