David Tennant has kicked off the 2025 BAFTA Awards with his rendition of the famous Scots tune I’m gonna Be (500 miles) by The Proclaimers.

Showing off his patriotism for Scotland, the Doctor Who legend was dressed in a burgundy shirt and black kilt while he belted out the beloved Scots anthem.

With many huge stars in the audience, the 53-year-old couldn’t help but have some Hollywood A-listers join in on his karaoke moment.

At several moments throughout the song, Tennant leaned the mic into celebrities such as Camilla Cabello, Anna Kendrick and Scots actor James McAvoy to help him sing along.

He also referenced global superstar Selena Gomez in his lyrics as he sang “I’m going to be the man who’s working hard for you, Selena.”

Fans have now taken to X to share their reactions to the opening show as one gushed: “David Tennant is a national treasure and we must protect him at all costs.”

Another said: “David Tennant singing I’m gonna be (500 miles) – bafta version … love all the confused faces.”

A third wrote: “David Tennant bring the proclaimers to an A list award ceremony couldn’t be anymore Scottish #BAFTA2025 “, alongside a clapping hands emoji.

Someone else commented: “James McAvoy and David Tennant interaction in 2025. I was praying for times like this.”

The Broadchurch star hosted the BAFTA Awards at London’s Royal Festival Hall on Sunday night the second year running.
