Colombian superstar songstress Shakira was forced to cancel her Sunday show in Lima after her hospitalization for an undisclosed abdominal condition.

“I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalized,” Shakira wrote in her Instagram stories and on X. “The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening.”

She added that she was already working on a new date with the concert’s promotors, and hoped to be “released and well tomorrow so I’m able to perform.”

Barely two weeks ago the singer performed at the Grammys for the first time in 18 years, belting out a belly-dance-infused medley of her 1998 classic “Ojos Así” coupled with her newest hit, “BZRP Music Session #53,” from her current album “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.” It was also her 48th birthday.

Just before that, Shakira had lit up the stage in accepting the award for Best Latin Pop album from Jennifer Lopez, using the moment to declare support for all immigrants in the face of mass deportations being ordered by President Trump.

Sunday’s concert in Lima marked the second stop of her Latin American tour to support her album “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” after two concerts in Brazil last week. The singer arrived in Peru Friday evening, where she was scheduled to perform Sunday and Monday; two dates in Brazil last week kicked off her Latin American tour, also titled “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.”

Enthusiastic crowds have greeted her wherever she went, and Peru was no exception. “Thank you for such an emotional welcome, Lima!” Shakira posted on Instagram Saturday.

On Sunday, her tune changed a bit.

“I am very sad to not be able to take the stage today,” Shakira concluded in a social media statement. “I’ve been looking forward to reuniting with my incredible fans here in Peru.”
