The new deal will keep Schaefer at Texas through the 2029-30 season.

AUSTIN, Texas — The successes of the Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team has led to their head coach getting a brand new contract extension.

On Saturday, it was announced that head coach Vic Schaefer had agreed to a contract extension that will keep him with the program through the 2029-30 season. The deal still needs approval from the university’s Board of Regents.

According to the Austin American-Statesman, Schaefer will receive slight raises for the three seasons in the new deal, with the final year bringing a salary of $2.6 million.

In five and a half seasons at Texas, Schaefer has led the Longhorns to an impressive 134-34 record with three appearances in the Elite Eight. Prior to his tenure at Texas, Schaefer spent eight seasons at Mississippi State, where he compiled a 221-62 record with a pair of back-to-back national championship appearances in 2017 and 2018.

Texas has a 25-2 record so far this season and is ranked No. 3 in the country. They are currently 11-1 in their first season of SEC play, tied with South Carolina with whom they have split wins and losses this season.
