Ben Davies admits he hasn’t thought about his future beyond the summer.
The Rangers defender – who joined Birmingham City on a year-long loan – has been a key player for Chris Davies and his Blues side in their pursuit of the English League One title and a return to the Championship. He’s been a mainstay in the team that currently leads nearest rivals Wycombe by nine points at the summit – having played one game less. They’ve also got a shot at Wembley with Bradford City standing between them and a big day out in a quest for silverware this season.
The stopper has made an impression with fans hoping the club will deal him in. But speaking via Birmingham Live, he has outlined what he hoped from his Ibrox exit and has revealed he’s not given what’s to come next too much thought. He said: “I don’t go on social media, or not looking for myself at least, so I haven’t noticed but if that’s the case it’s really flattering and brilliant to have their support.”
He added: “I haven’t thought about it yet, I just wanted to come out and do a year’s loan and try and get going again because it was a bit stop-start at Rangers for me. I’m happy with the way it’s going but I haven’t thought past now.
“I came here looking to play as many games as possible and when I first came I realised the strength-in-depth that the squad had and the quality that they had all over the pitch, especially at the back so it took a bit of time and I’ve been patient. I’ve done a good run of games now so it feels good.”
Scott Wright headed from Rangers to Birmingham with Kieran Dowell the third Ibrox player to hook up in January. Former Celtic man Tomoki Iwata has also made a real impression for the club including seven goals with one a stunner against Newcastle in the FA Cup.
However, one player out on loan who could return unless his current side get their act together is Rabbi Matondo. The Light Blues are already set to take a hit on the speedy attacker with Hannover willing to pay £1million. for his services.
But the Ibrox club announced it was an initial loan move with German media outlet BILD reporting at the time that any permanent transfer was dependant on promotion to the Bundesliga. And Rangers could be casting a nervous look towards the German second tier between now and the end of the season with Hannover currently eighth – but just six points off the league summit.
