A nine-year-old boy has been taken to hospital following an accident with a bus on Glasgow Road in Kilmarnock.

Emergency services were called to the scene yesterday at around 11.45am on Sunday, February 16, following the incident between the young cyclist and a Stagecoach bus.

The boy, whose condition was described as serious by police this morning, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment.

No-one on the bus was injured.

Glasgow Road and the A77 on slip were closed for around five hours as police carried out enquiries before reopening around 5pm.

Police are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident and may have dash cam footage to come forward and assist with their enquiries.

Sergeant Brian Simpson of Police Scotland said: “Our enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances of this incident. I would urge any witnesses or anyone with information to contact us.

“Drivers with dash-cam who were on this road around the time of the crash are asked to review their footage and please contact us if it holds anything relevant.

“Anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident number 1248 of February 16.”
