A hotel in Scotland’s marriage mecca has gone up for sale.

The Gables Hotel in Gretna in Dumfries and Galloway is in the market for offers of more than £1million.

The property was originally built more than 100 years ago and has 31 bedrooms – including five, four-poster bridal rooms. There’s also a suite with a whirlpool bath and the potential to add nine more rooms.

The beautifully manicured gardens have parking for 50 vehicles and the hotel also has a lounge bar capable of seating 70 guests. Other facilities include the Borders Restaurant, the Dovetail Suite, the Garden Room Suite and the Galloway Suite, which is ideal for weddings and other celebrations as it can accommodate up to 80 guests.

Gretna and Gretna Green are famous for their wedding industry, with thousands of couples marrying in the area each year.

The property is being marketed by Colliers’ Hotels Agency Team and Robert Smithson said: “The Gables Hotel presents a fantastic opportunity to acquire a well-performing business in a prime location. The hotel continues to perform strongly, particularly as management focuses on increasing revenue from accommodation while reducing reliance on food and beverage income.

“With its strong wedding trade, established corporate market, and potential for further growth through additional rooms and brand partnerships, this is a rare chance to invest in a business that is already delivering solid returns yet still has room for further development.”
