A job opportunity has come up on a small Scottish island, with “free accommodation” provided. At the moment, two hotels on the island of Tiree in the Inner Hebrides are seeking an “energetic and hands-on manager”.

The successful applicant will split their time between Tiree Lodge and the Scarinish Beach Hotel, located five minutes from each other by car. The full-time position would involve 45 hours of work or more each week. Meanwhile, the advertised salary is between £30,000 and £34,000.

As well as “free accommodation on the island”, benefits of the role include sick pay and the opportunity to live on Tiree. The island is renowned for being one of the sunniest destinations in the UK thanks to its warm temperatures and long days, and has even earned the nickname of Scotland’s ‘Sunshine Island’.

Responsibilities of the job will include leading and managing the overall running of Tiree Lodge and the Scarinish Beach Hotel and training and supervising hotel and restaurant staff. The successful applicant will also be responsible for offering “outstanding customer service” to guests and ensuring they have a “clean and comfortable experience”.

Those applying for the manager position should have experience in a similar role and should possess strong customer service skills. Applicants must also be “practical and hands-on”, and be able to train and direct staff to ensure “consistently high standards”.

When you are not working, there is plenty for you to get up to around Tiree. Its numerous sandy beaches are among the most picturesque in Scotland and, as they make up a third of the island’s coastline, there are miles of soft white sand to explore.

The main settlement on the island is the village of Scarinish, which is home to a population of around 150. The village features a bank, a grocery store, and a post office, as well as the Scarinish Beach Hotel.

Elsewhere, Tiree is known for its various fascinating archaeological sites. There are heritage centres where you can learn more about the island’s history, as well as ancient remains including a broch and several crannogs.

Tiree is also a haven for wildlife lovers. While out walking amidst its spectacular landscapes, you may spot a variety of rare bird species, as well as seals or even basking sharks along its coast.
