Strictly Come Dancing favourite Amy Dowden recently gave followers an update on life after her cancer diagnosis, as she prepared for a ‘surreal’ experience.

The courageous star faced breast cancer in 2023, undergoing a mastectomy and multiple rounds of chemotherapy before celebrating the end of this treatment phase by ringing the ceremonial bell.

In February, Amy joyfully announced that scans showed ‘no evidence of disease’. Although she continues monthly hospital visits for injections due to her specific type of cancer, Amy has made a heartfelt comeback to dancing and returned triumphantly to the Strictly stage.

On Monday, Amy attended her routine oncology appointment before heading from Wales to London. She shared a picture on Instagram during her treatment with the caption: “It’s that time of the month then a very busy day ahead.”

Later, Amy delighted fans by posting about the lovely reception she received at the Shangri-La The Shard in London, where she stayed prior to being honoured with her MBE, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The dancer, 35, took to Instagram to share her gratitude, posting a video of delightful treats and a gorgeous bouquet of flowers with the caption: “After a very long day what a dream to arrive to! Thank you! The celebrations have begun! Tomorrow all seems very surreal! Thank you dear @kurt.macher @shangrilalondon.”

Amy is set to be honoured as a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) on Tuesday for her contributions to fundraising and increasing awareness of inflammatory bowel disease.

The Welsh dancer opened up about her own battle with Crohn’s disease in 2019 and subsequently presented a BBC documentary titled Strictly Amy: Crohn’s And Me, discussing her challenges with the illness.

Following a Crohn’s flare-up during the Strictly live tour, she was hospitalised in Manchester three years later. In 2023, shortly after returning from her honeymoon with husband Ben Jones, Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer.

She shared her journey in the 2024 BBC documentary Strictly Amy: Cancer And Me, where she revealed that she has frozen embryos.
