Robert De Niro is set to take on his first major TV role in Netflix’s upcoming political thriller, Zero Day – but before you dive into that, make sure to catch this equally engaging comedy-drama.
The legendary Taxi Driver actor will be playing former US president George Mullen, who is assigned to lead a team investigating a catastrophic global cyberattack.
This marks De Niro’s debut as a lead in a TV series and his latest collaboration with Netflix following Martin Scorsese’s 2019 crime masterpiece, The Irishman.
Expected to be one of the biggest streaming sensations of 2025, fans are eagerly awaiting the miniseries’ release on Thursday, 20th February.
In the meantime, film enthusiasts are being urged to explore some of the cinema icon’s lighter work in the lead-up to his gripping new thriller, and Netflix has just the ticket.

In 2015, De Niro joined forces with beloved actress Anne Hathaway for the heartwarming comedy film The Intern, the final feature film from renowned director Nancy Meyers.
He plays retired widower Ben Whittaker who finds a renewed zest for life when he becomes bored with his routine after retiring from his career and lands a job with Jules Ostin (played by Hathaway), the CEO of a rapidly expanding fashion start-up.
Audiences were completely captivated by the tale of an older intern adjusting to the modern workplace, which sees him form a touching bond with Jules and even rediscover love with massage therapist Fiona Farwell (Rene Russo).
One fan couldn’t contain their excitement in a glowing five-star Google review, exclaiming: “I have a thing for feel-good movies, and The Intern is a gem that perfectly fits the bill”, reports the Mirror.
They continued to heap praise on the film’s cast before concluding: “Overall, I loved The Intern. It’s a heartwarming movie that I would personally rate five stars.”
Another thrilled viewer shared: “The Intern is a delightful, feel-good movie that strikes a perfect balance between humour, warmth, and life lessons.
“The chemistry between De Niro and Hathaway is simply wonderful. De Niro brings a calm, wise, and likable presence to his role, while Hathaway’s portrayal of a modern-day entrepreneur struggling to balance her personal and professional life is both relatable and inspiring.
“The Intern is a delightful blend of humour, heart, and wisdom, perfect for a light watch that leaves you smiling and feeling good about life. Highly recommend!”
