The Texas Board of Regents will be asked to approve the new contract this week.

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas head football coach Steve Sarkisian is set to secure a $12.3 million salary by 2031 under a new contract extension expected to be approved this week.

With the extension and salary bump, Sarkisian will remain one of the highest-paid coaches in the sport.

Sarkisian signed a contract extension with the University of Texas at Austin last month after declining interviews with two NFL teams.

It comes after Sarkisian agreed to four-year extension in 2024, which bumped his yearly salary to more than $10 million.

According to KVUE’s media partners at the Austin American-Statesman, the Texas Board of Regents will be asked to approve the new contract this week.

The 3.85% pay raise will raise Sarkisian’s guaranteed pay in 2025 by $400,000 to $10.8 million. He will make $11 million by next year and $12 million by 2030.

The seven-year deal with the university also adds an extra year to his existing contract.

The Longhorns’ season ended last week after Sarkisian helped lead them to their second consecutive College Football Playoff semifinals appearance. It ended in a 28-14 defeat to Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl Classic at AT&T Stadium.

Sarkisian has amassed a 38-17 record in four seasons at Texas.
