A Scottish football museum has been named as one of the best of its kind in Europe. Football is without a doubt the most popular sport in Scotland, with people of all ages playing and watching it every single day.

The country also has the second-oldest national Football Association in the world behind England. A new study conducted by Live Football Tickets aimed to find the top football museums across Europe based on factors such as visitor satisfaction and price.

Placing third on the prestigious list is the Scottish Football Museum in Glasgow. The number three football museum in the continent according to the experts, the Scottish Football Museum was assigned an overall score of 8.4 out of 10.

The museum is located in Hampden Park, our national stadium, and dates back to 1994. With entry priced at £8 per person, Live Football Tickets states that the Scottish Football Museum is “one of the most affordable in Europe”.

The museum was also found to have an average customer rating of 4.78 out of five on Tripadvisor. The exhibitions at the Scottish Football Museum are updated every six months.

A current highlight is an exhibit exploring the links between football and mining in Scotland, which provides a unique insight into the sport’s history in the country.

Meanwhile, the museum is also home to the original Scottish Cup — the world’s oldest national football trophy. There are also thousands of other objects on display that trace the history of football and highlight some of Scotland’s greatest players.

One recent Tripadvisor visitor shared: “Group of friends arranged to tour the stadium and the museum. Friendly welcome from our guide as the six of us arrived.

“The tour of the stadium was fascinating, our guide was well informed and happy to listen to our reminiscing about the Old Hampden. We were allowed to take pictures almost everywhere and wander about at our leisure.”

A second wrote: “A tour for lovers of the beautiful game! An educational tour about Scottish football, its heritage, and contributions to the sport.

“Plenty of stories to hear from and you even get to shoot at the training area. Highly recommended if you want an overview of the sport beyond the individual football clubs.”
