A link road providing the “final piece of the jigsaw” of the £150 million Cross Tay Link Road (CTLR) project has been unanimously approved by Perth and Kinross councillors.

The new road – which will be just under a mile long – will connect Bertha Park to the Cross Tay Link Road and the A9 north of Perth.

Perth and Kinross Council’s Planning and Placemaking Committee was delighted to approve the new route when it met on Wednesday, February 12.

The £150 million CTLR project – delivered by BAM – links the A9 to the A93 and A94 and includes just over a mile of realigned dual carriageway on the A9, just north of Perth’s Inveralmond Roundabout. The three-span Destiny Bridge and four-mile New Kingsway are due to officially open on March 31.

On Wednesday, councillors were asked to consider plans for a new road. It will run north from the existing roundabout next to Bertha Park
High School, go through Bertha Park village, farmland and forestry before
meeting the new A9 west roundabout and CTLR.

Local Strathtay ward councillor Claire McLaren was delighted to move the plans for approval.

Bailie McLaren said: “I am delighted to propose to pass this application. This has taken quite a number of years to come to fruition. This link road will be the final piece of the jigsaw of the vision of the Cross Tay Link Road and we look forward to the progression of it.”

The committee’s convener Ian Massie was pleased to second the application.

Cllr Massie said: “This is an excellent connection for Perth. It will improve connectivity for the A93 and A94 and A9 and reduce congestion at Bridgend.

“The economic growth impact will be immense, opening up land for economic growth. I believe it will enhance safety through Scone and the environmental benefits of reducing time for car journeys and those that are working at Inveralmond will be of benefit.”

Strathtay councillor Ian James added: “I’m delighted to see this come forward so quickly. It will open up good transport links, especially for Bertha Park.”

The plans were unanimously approved.
