Vigil’s cast are eager to make their comeback on TV as the BBC confirmed a third series is in the works. Stars Suranne Jones from Doctor Foster and Rose Leslie of Game of Thrones fame will reprise their roles as DCI Amy Silva and DI Kirsten Longacre, diving into a new six-episode mystery.
This time, their investigation takes them to a distant Arctic research station where a British special forces operative has been murdered. Amy and Kirsten face the task of finding the assassin while preventing a global crisis.
Set against the backdrop of a polar climate grappling with energy and resource battles, both their professional standing and personal relationship hang in balance.

Suranne Jones expressed her enthusiasm: “I can’t wait to return to Vigil series three, see our brilliant team in Scotland and work with Rose again. I’m sure it will be a thrill of a ride.”, reports the Mirror.
Rose Leslie also conveyed her excitement: “I can’t wait to get stuck into another season of Vigil, to work with the wonderful Suranne Jones again and our brilliant crew.
“And this time, Kirsten will get to pack her bags and join Amy on what’s set to be Vigil’s most high-stakes mission yet.”
The show debuted in 2021 featuring Silva as she tackled a homicide aboard a naval submarine within Scottish territory. It went on to become one of Britain’s top dramas of the decade.

The series was honoured with a Best Drama Series nomination at the 2022 BAFTA Television Awards and clinched the International Emmy for Best Drama Series.
Its second chapter, which debuted in 2023, centred on a lethal drone strike and launched to nearly nine million viewers, securing its spot as one of the BBC’s top three most-watched dramas that year.
The show’s creator Tom Edge shared his enthusiasm: “I’m delighted that Suranne and Rose are returning for a new adventure.
“In our third season we travel to the frozen north where the world’s great powers are competing to secure advantages as the ice melts.

“With a brilliant cast and crew assembling to make the show, we hope to deliver an epic investigation that shines a light on issues that will shape the world we all live in.”
BBC Drama Director Lindsay Salt said: “After the barnstorming success of Vigil series one and two, it’s our pleasure to announce the return of Silva and Longacre for what promises to be their most adrenaline-fuelled mission yet.
“Tom Edge and the World Productions team have excelled themselves with a brand new mystery and setting which will give Vigil’s millions of fans even more of the brilliant, blockbuster drama they’ve come to expect and love from this very special show.”
Vigil seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream now on BBC iPlayer.
