A beautiful Scottish island is currently looking for Scots to relocate for work in an exciting opportunity. Iona is a tiny island in the Inner Hebrides, situated off the Ross of Mull on Scotland’s west coast.
It is described as the birthplace of Christianity in Scotland after St Columba and a dozen companions arrived there in AD 563. The religious icon’s impact on the small but beautiful island is maintained to this day in a number of ways.
Iona’s St Columba Hotel is named after him – and that is where applicants to this job would work. The hotel is looking to hire a waiter and receptionist and a full-time basis as part of a fixed-term eight-month contract. It is a live-in position, with food and accommodation provided and pays £14.20 per hour.
With Iona being home to around just 170 people, the job would be perfectly suited to somebody who is looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the mainland and live a quieter life. Other benefits of the job include discounted or free food when not working and a company pension.
The job itself will start in March and end in November. It will involve a mix of reception and restaurant shifts, with the balance changing from week to week.
Those applying for the position should enjoy working as part of a team and have good communication skills. A strong attention to detail, computer literacy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are also must-have attributes.

You must also be able to drive a car and have had a full driving licence for two years or more before applying. This is because part of the job will involve meeting guests arriving at Iona from the ferry.
The job listing states: “The St Columba Hotel is located on a very beautiful island off the West Coast of Scotland. Although the island is small, it is a popular tourist destination and is very busy during the summer months.”
“This is an excellent opportunity to live and work in a beautiful and unique place. You will be expected to work five days out of seven and will have paid holidays during the season—so plenty of time to explore the island and the surrounding area!”

Even though it is small, there is plenty to get up to on Iona when you are not working. Port Ban Beach and St Columba’s Bay are just some of the extraordinary beaches around the island, while the 6th century Iona Abbey and Nunnery is its most famous landmark.
Meanwhile, the Isle of Mull is just a short distance away and features many more amenities. Its main settlement of Tobermory is home to a wide variety of popular restaurants and independent shops, while the island also includes incredible beauty spots such as Mackinnon’s Cave and the Eas Fors Waterfall.
In order to apply for the job at the St Columba Hotel, you must submit a cover letter, a CV, and contact details for at least two referees. More information can be found on the Indeed job listing.
