A body has been ‘found in an embankment’ as cops cordon off the area.

Photographs from the scene in the Greenmount area of Bury show a cordon in place in front of a number of emergency vehicles, reports the Manchester Evening News. A body has been found in an embankment nearby, according to reports.

Fire crews are also at the scene, along with police and paramedics. The alarm was raised earlier this evening before the body was discovered in the water, and emergency efforts are currently being focussed on an area near to the Holcombe sports and tennis club.

A Manchester Evening News reporter said from the scene: “The closure is about half a mile long and appears to be concentrated around Holcome Brook Sports and Tennis Club, where we understand a body has been found on an embankment.”

CSI teams and plain-clothed detectives have also now arrived at the scene.

Road closures have been in place throughout the evening in an area covering around half a mile.

Greater Manchester Police have been approached for comment.
