Energy giant SSE has lodged plans for a new 12-turbine win farm near Lochearnhead.

The firm has submitted a section 36 planning consent application to Scottish Government Ministers for its proposed 12-turbine, 74MW Glentarken Wind Farm.

The project is being developed on a site on the Drummond Estate – between St Fillans and Lochearnhead, Perthshire.

The onshore wind development, which also includes a proposed battery energy storage system (BESS), could power up to 75,000 homes annually.

The section 36 application has been submitted by SSE Renewables to Scottish Ministers, along with an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report.

If the plans are given the green light, then SSE says that a community investment fund would be established, valued at £5,000 per MW installed wind energy capacity per year and index linked to CPI.

That funding would then be made available once main construction starts and would remain in place for the operational life of the project.

Pauline Allison, Stakeholder Engagement Manager, SSE Renewables, said: “We’re pleased to be progressing our proposals for Glentarken Wind Farm near St Fillans having held three rounds of public exhibitions, most recently in November 2024.

“We would like to thank everyone for engaging with us during the development phase of this project and for listening and sharing thoughts and opinions. This information and engagement is extremely important to us, and will continue to inform the project going forward.”

The proposed turbine locations at the site are located within the Perth and Kinross local authority area. The proposed access route to the site will be from the A85, which is located within the Stirling Council area.

Following the submission of the sectipon 36 Consent Application, any representations to the application may be submitted to the Scottish Ministers via the Scottish Government Energy Consents Unit, by email to [email protected]; or by post to Scottish Government Energy Consents Unit, 4th Floor, 5 Atlantic Quay, 150 Broomielaw, Glasgow, G2 8LU, identifying the proposed Development and specifying the grounds for representation.

Written or emailed representations should be dated, clearly stating the name and full return email and postal address of those making representations. Only representations sent by email to [email protected] will receive acknowledgement.

All representations should be received not later than Friday, March 14, although the Scottish Ministers may consider representations received after this date.
