North Lanarkshire Council has approved the allocation of £222,361 in funding to 27 community organisations in Cumbernauld through the Campsies Grant Award Programme.

The grants will support a range of projects aimed at improving local services, enhancing wellbeing, and strengthening community engagement.

The programme, which is now almost fully committed, received 39 applications requesting a total of £326,995.

Councillor Geraldine Woods, Convener of the council’s Communities Committee, welcomed the latest round of awards, highlighting the positive impact these grants will have on Cumbernauld’s communities.

She said: “The Campsies Grant Fund has provided crucial support to local organisations working hard to improve the lives of residents across Cumbernauld.

“This funding will help sustain a wide range of projects, from mental health initiatives to youth programmes, community gardens, and support for vulnerable groups.

“The council is committed to empowering local groups and it’s fantastic to see so many organisations benefitting from this funding.”

The successful organisations include:

  • Cumbernauld Action for Care of The Elderly (CACE) – £9,719 to provide social, cultural, and leisure activities for older residents, including transport support.
  • Cumbernauld and District Women’s Aid (CADWA) – £10,000 to employ a children and young people’s support worker.
  • Scottish Spina Bifida Association – £10,000 to fund peer support groups for those affected by the condition.
  • Tony’s Safe Place – £8,700 to rent a community drop-in hub for mental health and wellbeing support.
  • Dance Vibez – £9,750 to develop an inclusive dance programme for ethnic minority communities.
  • Palacerigg Community Trust – £10,000 to upgrade the local lecture theatre.

Linda Rice, founder of Tony’s Safe Place, which offers support to anyone affected by depression, suicide or isolation, said: “This funding is a massive boost as it will enable us to develop the services that we offer to so many people and families.

“We have almost outgrown our current base within Cumbernauld Town Centre and are currently looking for new premises – this funding will help us with that so that we can provide the personal support to anyone who needs us.”

The full list of funded projects is available in the council’s report.

Due to high demand, a scoring system was used to assess each application and ensure funding was directed toward projects with the greatest impact.

The maximum grant per application was £10,000, allowing more groups to benefit.

Councillor Woods added: “Unfortunately, we couldn’t support every request, but we encourage all groups to stay engaged with future funding opportunities.

“If additional resources become available, we will make sure local organisations are made aware.”

The Campsies Grant Award Programme is administered by the council’s Community Partnership Team. It was established using unallocated funds from the former Campsies Centre Cumbernauld Ltd (CCCL), which were transferred to North Lanarkshire Council.
