Striker Kyogo Furuhashi has confessed he instantly suffered a Stade Rennes after Jorge Sampaoli was shown the door days after his Celtic exit.

The 30-year-old left the Scottish Premiership behind last month for a crack at Ligue 1 as he looked to fire the relegation threatened side to survival – but has been struggling to make his mark under new boss Habib Beye. Sampaoli was shown the door just days after pushing for a £10million move for the Celtic hero with Jota going in the opposite direction.

Since then, the Japan international has made just one start for his new club and has yet to score in France – with things going from bad to worse during the defeat to Saint-Etienne after he persistent shoulder problem flared up again. Speaking to Lemino Football, the striker said: “I spoke with the previous coach before signing the contract.

“I joined training for one or two days, and when I went in the morning the next day, everyone was talking about how the coach was going to be replaced. I was like ‘what?’ – I was surprised and disappointed.”

Despite a tough start to life in France, boss Beye has offered some positive news on the 30-year-old after his knock last weekend. Ahead of facing Reims on Friday night, he said: “Kyogo Furuhashi is available. There have been positive developments on his shoulder injury.”
