WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – The President’s National Security Advisor has some pointed advice for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Mike Waltz is warning the Ukrainian leader to watch what he says about Donald Trump.

The White House is clearly not pleased with recent comments made by Ukrainian President Zelensky. And it’s not ready to tamp down the feud between Zelensky and Trump.

On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a quote, “special military operation,” effectively declaring war on Ukraine. Russian troops began their invasion of Ukraine moments later.

Asked at Thursday’s White House press briefing who is more responsible for the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy or Russian President Vladimir Putin, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz avoided the question. Instead, Waltz directed his ire at Ukraine’s President.

“There needs to be a deep appreciation for what the American people, what the American taxpayer, what President Trump, did, in his first term and what we’ve done since. So some of the rhetoric coming out of Kiev, frankly, and, and insults to President Trump were unacceptable.

Earlier this week, in a television interview Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said he believes that Trump is living in what he called “this disinformation space.” He added, “I want there to be more truth in Trump’s team.”

That comment brought an immediate response from President Trump on social media, in which he called Zelensky “a dictator”. Waltz tried to explain the president’s position.

“Look, President Trump is obviously very frustrated right now with President Zelensky. The fact that, that he hasn’t come to the table, that he hasn’t been willing to take this opportunity that we have offered. I think he eventually will get to that point, and I hope so very quickly.”

In an op-ed in the Fall of 2023, Waltz wrote that Putin was to blame for starting the war with Ukraine. But now that he’s the President’s National Security Advisor, he says he shares the President’s assessment that Ukraine is to blame for starting that war three years ago.
