Coaches at Manchester United are reportedly growing frustrated with struggling striker Rasmus Hojlund.
The 22-year-old has not hit the back of the net in his last 16 games with one member of the backroom staff said to be especially angered by the Dane’s performance in the recent 1-0 defeat at Tottenham. Hojlund started against David Moyes’ Everton on Saturday only to be hooked on 70 minutes with no shot on goal.
However, Rangers legend Ally McCoist has offered some timely advice, if he is to turn things around, while on TNT Sport commentary duties during Ruben Amorim’s side’s 2-2 draw at Goodison Park. In the first half, he mused: “He desperately needs a goal, no doubt.”
Lead commentator Adam Summerton replied: “I watched a lot of him when he played in Italy with Atalanta, and I still think there is a fantastic player in there. But confidence isn’t high. I remember Gian Piero Gasperini at Atalanta saying before he left, ‘You are leaving too early. Stay a bit longer in Italy’. I don’t know if he will regret that or not.”
McCoist made comparisons with Liverpool’s ailing forward Darwin Nunez. He added: “I just think he needs to compose himself a little bit in front of goal. It’s easier said than done. If you look at all the great goal scorers and all the very good goal scorers – they compose themselves, they give themselves a little split second before a finish. That is certainly one of the things he is lacking at this moment in time. I would probably bring Nunez into that category as well.”
