A man has been arrested after armed cops descended on a flat in Inverness.

Emergency services were called to Smithton Park in the city following reports of “a man with a blunt weapon causing a disturbance” at around 11.35am on Monday. Police attended and a 39-year-old man was traced to a flat nearby. He has since been arrested and officers say their enquiries are ongoing.

Pictures taken from the scene showed a number of armed officers in attendance with the area cordoned off. Fire crews were also pictured at the scene while a number of children were also spotted walking by with their parents after classes at the nearby school finished for the day.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 11.35am on Monday, February 24, 2025, we were called to a report of a man with a blunt weapon causing a disturbance on Smithton Park, Inverness. Officers attended and the 39-year-old man was traced to a flat nearby. He has been arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 12.25pm on Monday, February 24, to support partners at an incident near Smithton Park in Inverness. Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances to the scene. Crews have now left the scene after ensuring the area was safe.”
