LEANDER, Texas — An investigation is underway after two threats were made against a Leander ISD middle school over the weekend.
A bomb threat and a school shooting threat were both reported against Wiley Middle School on Sunday, according to the Leander Police Department. Law enforcement said it received both threats within an hour.
Police said the bomb threat was made by an anonymous caller using a blocked number, and that a different person reported a shooting was targeting the middle school on Monday.
Upon further investigation, police identified two juveniles as persons of interest: one from the Leander area, and the other from a separate part of Texas.
The juveniles “claimed the phone calls were a prank” and said they didn’t plan to hurt anyone, according to law enforcement. The persons of interest and their families have since communicated with officers, but the identities of those involved will remain anonymous.
Police said there is no credible threat at this time, but an increased police presence will be at Wiley Middle School on Monday as an additional safety measure.
Since both of the people involved are underage, police will not reveal their identities or other information about the investigation.
