West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice(none)

WEST VIRGINIA – Senator Jim Justice (R-WV) has been issued a garnishment summons for $ 3,271,780.52 including court fees and interest after failing to pay a bond to an Illinois-based creditor, court records show.

The summons was issued on January 28 of this year and requests Senator Justice’s appearance in the United States District Court Western District of Virginia on March 28th, pay the entire debt or “file a written answer with the court”.

According to previous court filings, Sen. Justice’s debt with the creditor, Western Surety Company, comes from a separate court case in 2020 where Sen. Justice’s Bluestone Resources Inc. and Southern Coal Corp. were ordered to pay more than $2.7 million, plus additional fees after being found in breach of contract with a Texas-based business that leased equipment.

Western Surety Company issued a a supersedeas bond on behalf of Bluestone Resources Inc. for more than $3 million to allow for Justice’s company to file an appeal. That appeal did not stand, leaving Western Surety with a request to pay the bond penalty.

Sen. Justice companies recently had to pay more than $9 million to creditors to save the Greenbrier Resort from heading to public auction.
