Airdrie have three huge games in the space of seven days, and striker Ben Wilson knows it’s time to start winning.

That’s easier said that one, with Raith Rovers visiting New Broomfield tonight (Tuesday) and leaders Falkirk in ML6 on March 4, either side of a trip to high-flying Ayr United this weekend.

But Wilson knows it’s do or die for the Diamonds if they are to rescue their Championship status.

Rhys McCabe’s men sit bottom, 10 points behind Hamilton and Dunfermline, with a game in hand over both [the Falkirk clash next Tuesday]. Airdrie host Raith on the same evening that Accies host the Pars, which could make a big difference at the bottom end of the table.

But Wilson is only looking at the here and now, and says points are imperative.

After a lengthy winless run, Airdrie are unbeaten in their last four, drawing 1-1 at Partick Thistle on Saturday, following a 2-2 at Morton the weekend before.

The Northern Irishman said: “It has been a difficult wee patch for us, but we’ve turned the corner a wee bit now, it seems, and getting a wee run together, so hopefully we’ll build on that.

“Those grounds (Cappielow and Firhill) are hard to go to, and we’re coming out with points, whereas in the past we’re coming away with nothing.

“We’re building on that, and it’s frustrating not to get six points out of the last two games.

“Maybe we could have, and on another day we might have, so we’ll keep building and hopefully the luck will turn.

“Every game is a big one, and anybody can beat anybody in this league.

“We’re coming to that part of the season now where we need to start winning, and hopefully we can start doing that on Tuesday.”

Wilson netted his 14th goal of an impressive season in the 1-1 draw at Firhill, cancelling out caretaker boss Brian Graham’s early opener for Thistle.

The striker said: “It’s always nice to score and help the team.

“I thought in the second half we were a lot better, the first half wasn’t really like us at all, so that was the message at half-time, to show a bit more bravery, get on the ball and make things happen.

“We did that in the second half.

“It’s a good ball from Chris Mochrie, I know what Adam Frizzell is going to do, he’s going to fire it across the box, and I just need to get myself in between the posts and guide it in, and thankfully I have done.

“It’s just being in there and natural, where I don’t need to smash it. The pace is already on the pass, so if I help it on it will go in.

“Everybody loves scoring goals, especially me, and if I can help the team in any way, I will.”
