CLARKSBURG, W.Va (WDTV) – At least 10 employees have been laid off at the Louis A. Johnson Medical Center in Clarksburg, according to union representatives.
The Union President of AFGE 2384, who represents the bargaining unit employees at the hospital, confirmed the layoffs.
Earlier this month, the Department of Veterans Affairs announced the dismissal of more than 1,000 employees as “part of a government-wide Trump Administration effort to make agencies more efficient.”
It is not clear at this time if the local layoffs are part of the 1,000 employees being laid off nationally.
While the number of employees laid off at the Louis A. Johnson facility is currently at 10, union representatives say that number may ultimately rise.
The facility issued the following statement:
“The Louis A. Johnson VAMC has dismissed a small number of probationary staff this month. This decision will have no negative effect on Veteran health care, benefits or other services and will allow VA to focus more effectively on its core mission of serving Veterans, families, caregivers and survivors. We cannot discuss specific personnel matters due to privacy concerns.”
