The body of a Scottish businessman who vanished from his hotel in Kenya has been found dumped in an African forrest.

Campbell Scott, 58, was discovered dead by animal herders in the Makongo Forest on Sunday. Mr Scott, from Dunfermline in Fife, had been visiting the capital of Nairobi for a work trip before he went missing on February 16.

His strangled body was found in a sack more than 60 miles away from his hotel. Police in Kenya confirmed two people were arrested in connection last night. A post-mortem into his death is set to take place imminently.

Here is everything we know so far:

What were his last movements?

The businessman left the five-star hotel to go for a walk to shake off jet lag on February 16. He said he would be back by lunchtime. The last sighting of Mr Scott was caught by a CCTV camera and shows him walking in a car park dressed in a blue too with the Scotland flag emblazoned on the shoulder and shorts.

Local reports suggest that he had visited a gay bar in Westlands, where he had drinks with a friend. He is understood to have left the club shortly after 7pm that night before getting a taxi to an unknown destination.

The alarm was raised by his colleagues after they contacted him via his UK-registered mobile and received no reply. After waiting an hour, his concerned co-worker alerted the hotel who advised him to contact the police.

What were his injuries?

Mr Scott’s lifeless body was discovered more than 60 miles away from his hotel in the Makongo forest a week after he was reported missing. Crime scene investigators say that Scott’s body was wrapped in a sack with his limbs tied.

He had visible injuries on his hands, suggesting he had been tortured before being killed. His body was then dumped in the thicket.

What have the police said so far?

Police in Kenya confirmed two people have been arrested in connection with Mr Scott’s disappearance and death. It is further understood that an autopsy will be conducted today at Makueni County Referral Hospital Mortuary to determine the exact cause of death.

Who was arrested?

A nightclub waiter and a taxi driver have been arrested in connection with the alleged abduction and murder of Mr Scott. According to local reports, detectives are pursuing two key leads: first, the identity of the mystery friend who was with Scott before his death, and second, the possibility that he was lured to his death by individuals at the nightclub.

What has his work, FICO, said?

FICO said they were “devastated” by their employee’s death.

A spokesperson said: “FICO can confirm that Nairobi police have identified the body of Campbell Scott, a FICO employee,” a spokesperson said. “Campbell went missing last Sunday while on a business trip to Nairobi. We are not sharing further details, as the investigation is in the hands of the police.”
