Coronation Street fans are bracing themselves for the potential departure of a cherished character, David Platt, who has been a fixture on the ITV soap since 1990.
In the upcoming episodes, David learns that his nemesis Harvey Gaskell is plotting to murder him for his life insurance to clear his debts.
The spoilers hint at David discovering this horrifying truth while being menaced with a knife by Andy in the salon. Later in the week, viewers will be gripped by a poignant twist as David is seen battling for his life in hospital in a flash-forward scene.
Prior to this, Nick Tilsley and Shona Platt express concern for David when they see him consuming vodka at lunchtime.
Meanwhile, Daisy Midgeley and her stepmother Jenny Connor have a disagreement after Jenny leads Daniel Osbourne to believe that Daisy’s baby is his, hoping he can assist them in settling their pub debts to Carla Connor.
As David seeks solace in alcohol at the pub, Kit Green advises Daniel to ask Daisy for proof that he is indeed the father of the baby, leaving Jenny uneasy. It isn’t long before Daniel confronts Daisy and demands she swear on the baby’s life that he is the father.
This confrontation overwhelms Daisy, causing her to leave the pub. Tragedy soon strikes the cobbles as David stumbles into the road just as Shona arrives, witnessing a car speeding towards David, reports Leicestershire Live.
However, as Daisy also leaves the pub at the same time, the car strikes both David and Daisy. Upon hearing the crash, Nick, Sarah Platt, Daniel, Jenny and Kit rush out of the Rovers to find David and Daisy seriously injured.
In heart-wrenching scenes, Shona attends to David but it’s clear he’s bleeding heavily as Kit calls for an ambulance. At the same time, Jenny and Daniel rush to Daisy’s side, urging her to wake up, worried about her unborn child.
