BLUEFIELD, W. Va. -With flooding being the focus of many people right now, the City of Bluefield is turning to the community for ideas on how to help one area replace their outdated storm water collection systems. It’s the “Tree Street Area,” which comprises the primarily residential area from the Midway Tunnel to the Wade Center.

This area is now being considered for a new storm water project. To help secure the grant funding for this project, the City scheduled a town hall meeting at the Wade Center, where the community can give input and share challenges they’ve had with storm water in the past. They can also see some of the engineering plans and potential locations being proposed for the project.

Bluefield’s City Manager, Cecil Marson, calls the current storm water system in the tree street area “extremely outdated,” which could spell danger during flooding conditions.

“…In Bluefield… now thankfully, this last flood was not quite as drastic as it was in some other areas in Southern West Virginia, but two years ago, Memorial Day, we had a pretty significant flood, and, quite frankly, the infrastructure just needs to be replaced and updated, so we’re making an attempt to get that done for our citizens,” says Marson.

The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 25th at 6:00 pm at the Wade Center. If you missed this meeting, Marson says you can still share your thoughts by stopping by the City Hall.
