LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) – The Las Vegas Metro Police Department will soon have the first police fleet of Tesla Cybertrucks in the country.

During the State of the Department address Tuesday, LVMPD Sheriff Kevin McMahill said the department purchased a fleet of 10 Cybertrucks.

The LVMPD sheriff touted the safety that the Cybertrucks will provide, as seen in this rendering.

One will be designated as a SWAT vehicle.

McMahill said the Cybertrucks were paid for by a “very generous donation from an individual” and not with the department’s budget.

This will be the largest fleet of Tesla police trucks that exists in the country, the sheriff said.

He also touted the safety that the vehicles will provide.

“The cop inside will be safe no matter what, it will stop bullets,” McMahill said.

The sheriff hopes the Cybertrucks will also be “a tremendous recruitment tool.”

“Imagine when we’re out and we’re charging these things, and officers will be approached by people from all over the community to see this thing,” McMahill said. “It’s an opportunity [to] inject humanity, to increase our community partnerships.”
