The Nets signed forward Kendall Brown to a two-way contract on Tuesday. His G League call-up marked the 16th in Long Island Nets history, the fourth for Brooklyn and the first for Brown.
So, what are the Nets getting in the Cottage Grove, Minn., native?
Brown was selected 48th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2022 NBA Draft out of Baylor and his draft rights were acquired by the Indiana Pacers. He appeared in 21 regular-season games in two seasons with the Pacers, averaging just 1.4 points per game, but did play in seven playoff games during the team’s run to the Eastern Conference finals last season.
In his lone college season, Brown earned unanimous Big-12 All-Freshman honors and helped lead the Bears to a co-conference title.
The 21-year-old was waived by Indiana in October. In 20 appearances for Long Island this season, he’s averaged 16.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 53.5% from the field and 38.3% from 3-point range. He’s now the Nets’ third-youngest developmental project behind Dariq Whitehead (20) and Noah Clowney (20).
Brown fills Brooklyn’s final two-way spot, joining Tosan Evbuomwan and Reece Beekman. Tyrese Martin recently had his two-way contract converted into a standard NBA deal.
Brown, currently on G League assignment with Whitehead, was inactive for the Nets’ game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday at Barclays Center. However, Evbuomwan was not on the status report and available after spending the past few games with Long Island.
Brooklyn’s roster now stands at 18 players after Brown’s signing.
