The game was already over – but Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel fumed after Aberdeen notched a late consolation on Tuesday night.

With the Scottish Premiership leaders holding a 4-0 advantage, Shayden Morris would spearhead a Dons counter attack and slip the ball under the Danish shot-stopper to pull a goal back for the Dons in the final minutes of the Celtic Park showdown. Veteran Schmeichel was caught by the cameras kicking the post in frustration – with Chris Sutton noting on commentary how seriously the goalkeeper was taking the clean sheet as his rage boiled over.

Daizen Maeda would find time to notch another goal and make it 5-1 as Brendan Rodgers’ men strolled 16 points clear at the top of the table before Rangers face Kilmarnock on Wednesday night. However, the anger from Schmeichel may be explained by Morris’ taking away his chance to write his name in the Celtic history books.

Going into the clash with Jimmy Thelin’s side, Celtic managed to go nine home matches without conceding – which is the current club record. Legendary manager Jock Stein holds the record – alongside Neil Lennon who matched his predecessor’s achievement of nine home games without conceding a goal.

And while Aberdeen finding the net only proved to be a minor set-back during an impressive evening for Celtic, it means that claiming the record has gone beyond Rodgers’ side – for now. As it stands, Schmeichel will have to settle for the joint record.
