HICKORY, N.C. (WBTV/Gray News) – Girl Scouts were selling cookies outside of a Walmart when they encountered a man armed with a hatchet.
Ellena Moody said the man appeared out of nowhere.
“It was very creepy. It was very scary,” Moody said.
Moody was volunteering with her daughter’s Girl Scout troop selling cookies in front of a Walmart in Hickory, North Carolina.
She said the man approached the table armed with a hatchet and got close to one of the girls.
“He held it within inches of her stomach. She was frozen in terror,” Moody said.
The man then allegedly went to the next entrance where another table full of Girl Scouts was.
“There was another Girl Scout cookie stand and he was waiving the hatchet in the air,” Moody said.
She says police were called but she does not feel like the situation was taken seriously enough.
“I’m most disappointed with the lack of concern it seems on the part of Walmart and the police,” Moody said.
In a statement, Walmart Corporate said they are working with law enforcement.
Moody says her daughter is too shaken up to go back to the Walmart location anytime soon.
