Only 21 people in Hollywood have the rare achievement of winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and a Tony.

WASHINGTON — Only 21 people in Hollywood have achieved EGOT status, making the achievement one of the entertainment industry’s most elusive honors.

EGOT is the term used for an individual who has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award during their career. Some EGOT winners include Jennifer Hudson, Viola Davis, John Legend, Sir Elton John and Rita Moreno.

As award seasons come and go, many eagerly watch to see who will join entertainment’s most prestigious circle next.

At Sunday’s Oscars, only one person is at the cusp of joining the exclusive club.

Who is close to joining the EGOT club?

Cynthia Erivo is just an Oscar away from having an EGOT and her nomination for “Wicked” could seal the deal.

If Erivo wins Sunday for her portrayal of Elphaba in “Wicked,” she would also become the youngest person to ever EGOT — at just 38 years old. Currently, the youngest person to get the achievement is songwriter Robert Lopez, who at 39 years old collected all four awards. He is also the only one to have a “double EGOT.”

The “Wicked” actress’ EGOT quest began when she won a Tony Award for best leading actress in “The Color Purple” on Broadway in 2016.

In 2017, Erivo won a Grammy for best musical theater album for the Broadway cast recording of “The Color Purple” and then won an Emmy for best musical performance in a daytime program — which she also won alongside “The Color Purple” cast.

Erivo has been close to securing the EGOT before, receiving two Oscar nominations for “Harriet” in 2020. “Wicked” has once again increased her chances of getting Hollywood’s rarest honor.

Who are the most recent EGOT winners?

Ahead of the 2025 Oscars, the last time an EGOT was achieved was by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who won an Emmy in 2024 for a song they co-wrote for “Only Murders in the Building.” To date, the duo has the fastest climb to an EGOT, accomplishing it in seven years and seven months from their first EGOT award win.

Does Lin-Manuel Miranda have an Oscar?

“Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda still needs an Oscar to reach EGOT status, but won’t have a chance to join the club this year. He was not nominated in the 97th Academy Awards for his songwriting in “Tell Me It’s You” from “Mufasa: The Lion King.”

While Miranda has three Tony Awards, five Grammy Awards and two Emmy Awards, he’s been just shy of an EGOT since 2014.

He previously received Oscar nominations for songs in “Moana” and “Encanto,” but fell short of the achievement both times.
