Austin police arrested the man on his birthday following a months-long manhunt.

AUSTIN, Texas — A wanted man has finally been arrested months after a violent incident in northeast Austin.

According to police, 25-year-old Deontay Marquice Williams was arrested Tuesday for a shooting outside of a home on Bennett Avenue in the St. Johns area.

Court documents state Williams was in the car with other people when an argument ensued. Witnesses told police they weren’t sure what the argument was about but that Williams got out of the car and pulled out a gun.

After waving the gun around, Williams shot the victim four times before he could pull his own gun out. Williams then left the scene. Meanwhile, the victim was taken to the hospital and managed to survive.

During their investigation, the victim told police he wasn’t sure what caused Williams to “get so upset” that he would need his gun. However, the victim stated Williams may have been upset over a conversation they had at the time.

Days after the shooting, the victim allegedly identified Williams as the gunman in the incident during a photo lineup. The victim explained that Williams tried taking his gun before he managed to hit the magazine release and accused Williams of trying to rob him.

Williams was arrested on his birthday during a traffic stop by an Austin police tactical unit. He was charged with felony aggravated robbery and remains in Travis County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
