PRINCETON, W.Va. -With spring headed our way the Director of the Mercer County Animal Shelter says she always sees an influx of puppies and kittens this time of year, and with that expected increase, those at the shelter need supplies.
“We need formula. We need bottles because a lot of these come in, and they’re not weaned. Mom gets out and gets hit by a car. We get brought the puppies and, you know, we use a lot of formula for kittens and puppies during the spring,” said Stacey Harman, Director for the Mercer County Animal Shelter.
For those who may be unsure of what products to purchase, the shelter can also use monetary donations.
“Another thing we see a lot of time when it’s warming up, dogs get out more. We see an increase of dogs being hit by cars and such as that. So, we’re always needed and help with medical bills as well,” continued Harman. With the need of donations there is also a need for adoptions. Harman says the shelter seems to always be at full capacity.
If you are interested in adopting the shelter offers doggy day outs to help show the animal’s true personality.
“They can take them on a doggy day out, where they just sign them out of the shelter, take them out, have a fun day at the park, bring them back and give us some feedback on their personality because that’s something we don’t always get to do,” said Harman.
If you are interested in adopting the shelter is opened Tuesday through Saturday 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Adoption fees are $140 for dogs and $85 for cats including spay and neuter and their first rounds of vaccines.
