North Lanarkshire Council has been notified of plans to install a new 20-metre phone mast near Cumbernauld town centre.

A planning application from Mobile Broadband Network, provides details of the proposed tower, which would be located behind Cumbernauld Indoor Bowling Club.

The tower would be equipped with nine antennae while at ground level four cabinets and other apparatus would be installed.

The application explains that this mast would replace another one close by, in order to provide the local area with various network services including 5G.

The application was submitted under the Scottish Government’s rules on prior notification for Electronic Communication Code operators. This means that planning procedures for companies installing digital infrastructure such as phone masts are different than in most other cases, as the government is promoting access to 5G networks.
