
TAZEWELL COUNTY, Va. – From the Virginia State Police:
Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal single vehicle crash that occurred Monday (Feb. 24, 2025) at 4:40 p.m. on Abbs Valley Road in Tazewell County.
A 2013 Chevy Silverado was traveling northbound in the 62-hundred block of Abbs Valley Road at a high rate of speed when the Silverado went off of the right side of the road. The vehicle struck an embankment, a rock wall, and then a fence, which caused it to become airborne. The airborne Silverado then struck an abandoned house.
The driver of the Silverado, Albert M. Bright, 32, of King, N.C., died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
A passenger in the Silverado, Lee A. Franklin, 55, suffered serious injuries. A second passenger, Richard A. Bright, 49, suffered minor injuries. Neither was wearing a seatbelt.
The crash remains under investigation.
