ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – In February, we are highlighting Black history and showcasing Black excellence as part of our Black History: Voices of Virginia Special.
To celebrate, we invited renowned Choreographer and Youth Dance Educator with CommUNITY ARTSreach Khyree English to perform a praise dance piece to the song “Total Praise” by Richard Smallwood.
Praise dancing has multiple origins, but in America, the art began in Baptist churches in the late 19th century. Orginiating and using inspiration from religious dances in West Africa, the traditional dance is not only an art, but a form of worship.
To keep up with CommUNITY ARTSreach and what they provide for the community you can visit their website or connect with them on Facebook.
