AUSTIN, Texas — Lake Travis ISD has picked an interim superintendent following the resignation of its previous superintendent earlier this month.
In a special meeting on Wednesday, the district named Dr. Steve M. Flores as interim superintendent, effective Friday, Feb. 28. The board unanimously approved Flores for the role.
A native of San Angelo, Flores has worked in public education for nearly four decades, having served as a paraprofessional, teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and deputy superintendent. Before stepping into his first superintendent role, he served as chief of staff at Dallas ISD.
Flores’ career includes 13 years as superintendent of schools in Harlingen CISD and Round Rock ISD. During the 2023-2024 academic year, he served as interim superintendent in the Taylor and Pflugerville school districts. He was named Superintendent of the Year by Texas PTA in 2020 and by the Austin Chamber of Commerce in 2019.
At least temporarily, Flores will succeed previous Lake Travis ISD Superintendent Paul Norton, who resigned in early February over what the district described as “allegations of misconduct.” Though the specific allegations against him were never specified, the district said the allegations did not involve students or district finances.
Prior to his February resignation, Norton had been on paid leave since December 2024.
