MCDOWELL COUNTY, W.Va. – McDowell County schools will reopen on March 10 after experiencing devastating flooding on Feb. 15.
Superintendent Dr. Ingrida Barker posted on the school system’s website that the community has shown incredible resilience and going back to school is a key part of rebuilding the county together.
For families in areas where bus routes may still not be accessible the school system will work with the individual students and families to find solutions and make sure students can return to school as soon as possible.
Barker said the school system is working closely with the state Department of Highways to ensure all bus routes are safe.
All routes and changes will be posted by March 5. Some routes may change as areas improve and any changes will be posted promptly.
Students should now be focusing on technology supportive lessons to review important math and reading to keep their skills sharp, which will help with the transition back to classrooms.
