BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The White House delivered 4 southern West Virginia counties a Major Disaster Declaration on Wednesday. Now residents in McDowell, Mingo, Mercer and Wyoming Counties are able to apply for assistance in relation to the February 15th floods.
FEMA may be able to help with temporary housing, repairs to your home and essential items. Essential items are listed as water, first aid, prescriptions, infant formula, breast feeding supplies, diapers, medical supplies, personal items, and fuel for transportation.
The funds may also be used for the repair of replacement of a vehicle, furniture and computers as well as supplies needed for moving or storage. Childcare and funeral expenses are also listed as situations that may qualify for funding.
To learn more or to see if you can qualify you can call 1-800-621-3362 or visit www.disasterassistance.gov.
Those with Mercer County Emergency Management tell us that FEMA will have a physical presence in the affected counties as well. No solid dates have been given for when that will begin.
