RIVERSIDE, Mo. (KCTV/Gray News) – A night of terror in Missouri ended Friday morning when the man suspected of killing two people, injuring another and abducting a child was killed by police.

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office said 43-year-old George Manning was shot and killed by police just after 7:30 a.m.

He was the suspect in two homicides that occurred Friday night, the second of which involved a child abduction that prompted an Amber Alert, authorities reported.

According to police, Manning first shot and killed a woman in the parking lot of a car wash in Riverside, Missouri, before stealing her car.

Manning then allegedly drove to a home on the 4400 block of NW 50th Street, where he shot a boy and another woman, killing the boy and seriously injuring the woman. Police said Manning then took a 5-year-old girl from the home, prompting an Amber Alert.

The identities of the victims have not been released. The second woman shot is believed to be the mother of the boy killed and the abducted child, according to Jeffrey Shanks, the spokesperson for the Platte County Sheriff’s Office. She was hospitalized following the shooting.

Authorities believe the first woman killed was unrelated to the victims of the second shooting.

Just before midnight, Kansas City Police received a 911 call about shots fired at a bar in Kansas City. When officers arrived on the scene, they confirmed an aggravated assault that didn’t result in an injury had taken place.

Witness at the bar reported the suspect aggravator, who matched Manning’s description, left the bar on foot. Minutes later, a carjacking was reported a few blocks away from the bar.

It’s unclear exactly when the abducted girl was returned to her family, but at approximately 5:10 a.m., it was reported she had been found safe. Authorities said she was unharmed in the incident.

Manning eventually returned to Platte County, Missouri, in a stolen vehicle. Police found him on foot on Vivion Road near the intersection of Waukomis Drive. Police reportedly killed Manning in a subsequent shooting.

“I was just working, doing my thing this morning and all of a sudden I heard like 50 shots go off,” said Chuck Nord, a witness near the scene where Manning was killed. “So I ran outside and saw guns ablaze. They got some dude down on the ground and it looked like they got him. It was crazy.”

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the officer-involved shooting is under investigation. The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department is investigating the alleged crimes committed in Kansas City, Kansas. The Platte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the two homicides and child abduction that occurred in Riverside.
