It was Armed Forces Day at Ibrox on Saturday but yet again Rangers went down with the feeblest of fights.
The defeat to Motherwell was the third straight defeat at home for this limp Light Blues line-up. And Willie Mercer, Dumfries, said: “What Saturday’s result confirms is what most Rangers fans have known for a long time – the majority of the current squad do not have the strength of character to play under the demands and expectations at Rangers.
“They are weak physically and mentally all over the park. There isn’t one leader of men within the current squad. Barry Ferguson said in his post match interview that he again explained what it meant to play for this club and he said they understood. Well Barry, I’m sorry to correct you, but from what us fans have witnessed this season, they clearly don’t understand .. and clearly don’t care.”
John Spence, Costa Del Sol, added: “After Saturday’s latest debacle we’re now 16 points behind Celtic, although truth is that’s largely irrelevant. Fact is we’re years behind. When Steven Gerrard was appointed manager in 2018 he was given three years to stop the unthinkable, and it took him most of that time to succeed.
“In whatever guise they take, hopefully a new regime together will emerge soon and they will have around double that timescale to stop the unthinkable again. And they may need it because, in over 50 years of following Rangers, I can’t remember seeing such a poor group of players. Literally every one of them needs to be moved on and replaced – that will not be a quick fix.”

Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, said: “Another pitiful Rangers performance. With such terrible defending, the days of opposition teams coming and parking the bus at Ibrox are over. They are now having a go as Motherwell did. That’s the first time I’ve seen 18-year-old Lennon Miller. He put in a top performance and surely a big future ahead.”
Sean Beech, Hampshire, said: “The Rangers fans on here must be feeling like those poor whack a moles. Every time their team wins a match, the fans pop their heads up eagerly to herald a new dawn, only for their team to whack them back straight down again.”
Celtic continued their relentless march to four-in-a-row as they overran St Mirren – but only after the Buddies gave Brendan Rodgers’ side a couple of scares. Yang Hyun-jun helped make the difference with his late double and, said Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton: “I thought Yang was just another player that Celtic would consider going out on loan. But after witnessing his recent performances I’ve changed my mind.
“His confidence has risen 10 fold in recent weeks and I predict he will have a similar impact going forward that Nicolas Kuhn had when he arrived.”
Sean Dolan, Chicago, added: “How much evidence does Brendan Rogers need to realise that Adam Idah cannot continue to play No9. We are a completely different team with Daizen Meada in that position. Idah as a player needs a rethink. False 9? No10? Go figure it out Rodgers.”
Final call goes to George Wilson, West Sussex who groaned: “The SPFL is now a complete joke. Celtic are a very average side as has been shown several times this season including when Rangers beat them 3-0 at New Year.
“They are so far in front because Rangers and the rest are far worse. Their Champions League hype was over the top as they only won three out of 10 against the three worst teams in the competition. Rangers can’t get any worse yet they in turn are miles ahead of all the rest. The standard in this league is the poorest it’s been in a long time.”
