WELCH, W.Va. – In Welch, Christian relief organizations have come from near and far to assist with flood cleanup and provide fellowship.
Southern Baptist Disaster Relief has boots on the ground in McDowell County, stationed at Reclamation Church, assisting locals with flood recovery and providing ministry.
According to the Association Coordinator of the West Virginia Chapter of the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, Andrew Lynch, six to seven states have come in to help, including members that traveled all the way from New England.
“Well, for disaster relief, you know, when we have issues in New England, West Virginia comes up, so we always try to go back and help those states that come up and help us… they’ve been to Barre [Vermont] two years in a row, so it was our turn to come down and help in West Virginia,” said Edward Lucas, the Director of New England Southern Baptist Disaster Relief.
“…We’re one big family, we all just get to wear the same color shirt most of the time and you know we just…this is what we do, it’s a ministry, and it’s people helping people, so that we can get out there and love on these communities,” continued Lynch.
Southern Baptist Disaster Relief will continue to assist in McDowell County, and they are accepting volunteers at this time.
If you need assistance from them, they can be reached at Reclamation Church’s number, which is (304) 888-7812, or by calling the non-emergency line for the Welch Armory, and that number is (888) 929-4966.
