AMADOR COUNTY, Calif. (KOVR) – A search is on for the person who killed a family’s dog in California after they said their 4-year-old pup was shot on their property last week.
The Palumbos have been left without their usual welcome home from their dog Oso for nearly a week.
The night Oso was killed, Palumbo said she noticed something was wrong when she pulled up to her gated driveway.
“Before I open the gates, I find Oso lying right here, not breathing,” she said.
Serina Palumbo said she found Oso with a wound in his neck.
The family believes their four-legged friend was shot.
The sheriff’s office investigating said the wound looked consistent with a pellet or small caliber bullet.
“I do feel very uneasy that someone would feel comfortable shooting towards my house, where my kids play outside every day,” Palumbo said.
Oso’s family believes that whoever may have killed him might have known he would be in his vulnerable spot outside.
Deputies and the family talked to neighbors to find any evidence but came up with no leads.
“Our neighbors absolutely loved our dog, they intentionally walked the neighborhood to greet him every morning,” Palumbo said.
One next door neighbor thinks he may have heard the killing take place. What he believed were the sounds of children playing may have been a loud whimper coming from Oso.
Palumbo said no one in the neighborhood had any complaints about Oso, who had been there since the family moved back in 2020.
“It’s mind-boggling that someone would even do this,” Palumbo said.
