DALLAS — Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving is out for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL, according to ESPN Insider Shams Charania.
Irving went down in the first quarter after knocking knees with Kings center Jonas Valanciunas while driving to the basket. After his right knee collided with Valanciunas’, Irving appeared to hyperextend his left leg. Irving went back to the foul line to shoot free throws he got from a foul on the play.
After taking (and making) both free throws, Anthony Davis helped Irving to the locker room.
Irving’s injury adds to a lengthy list of Mavericks on the injury report, which to this point had mainly affected the team’s frontcourt: Anthony Davis, Daniel Gafford, Dereck Lively II and P.J. Washington.
On Tuesday morning, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Irving was diagnosed with a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season. Irving has averaged 25 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.3 steals in an average of 36.6 minutes per game this season.
