EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy and partner Marc Humphreys shared their thoughts on the soap’s 40th anniversary episode, specifically Anita Dobson’s return as Angie Watts. Marc, who works behind the scenes on the show, expressed sympathy for Anita, imagining her reaction to seeing the Queen Victoria pub in shambles.

On Natalie’s Life With Nat podcast, Marc imagined all the changes Anita must havce seen sicne the last time her character left Albert Square, saying: “I just thought ‘Wow, she must think this has changed’.

“Obviously in terms of the set…the studio hasn’t actually changed. It’s probably identical to when she was last in there, just a lot older and needs a clean. But I just thought, what a difference that must have been there.”

Marc went on to describe the set’s transformation, with every surface covered in “theatrical dust” to create a partially destroyed look.

Marc also revealed that he wore overalls for the shoot, while Anita donned one of her original Angie Watts costumes for her surprise appearance. As Sharon lay injured, Anita emerged from the darkness, looking remarkably similar to her 1988 exit.

Natalie chimed in: “Wasn’t it amazing that she wore her original costume?” adding a lighthearted comment, “imagine having the same figure!”

The latest gripping episode marked the departure of a familiar face and the introduction of a fresh one, as Sonia welcomed baby Julia into the world while Stacey Slater bid an emotional goodbye to Martin Fowler. Martin, who was the first baby born on Albert Square back in 1985, has now passed away, signalling the end of an era, reports Plymouth Live.

The action-packed live episode paved the way for a new generation of EastEnders characters, with speculation rife that Vicki Fowler will be pulling pints when the Queen Victoria reopens its doors in May.
