BLUEFIELD, Va. – After 16 seasons on the sidelines for the Bluefield Rams men’s basketball team, head coach Richard Morgan has stepped down.

Morgan, a Salem, VA native and former Virginia Cavalier men’s basketball player, took the reigns as the head coach back in 2009 and finding success right away going 17-16 and winning a share of the Appalachian Athletics Conference (AAC) regular season title. Throughout his 16 seasons, Morgan would guide the Rams to two NCCAA Mid-East region championships and five NCCAA tournament appearances. He also would coach the likes of Bryan Carpenter and Omar Reed who both won AAC player of the year under Morgan.

Morgan’s statement released from Bluefield University’s athletic website stated, “After 16 seasons with the Rams, it’s time for a new chapter. This decision wasn’t easy, but I’m forever grateful to Bluefield University for welcoming me into the Rams family…Though I’m moving on, Bluefield will always be a part of me. Once a Ram, always a Ram.”
