GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas — A Houston Police Department captain who is accused of possessing child pornography and sexually assaulting a young girl nearly 100 times has been released on bond, according to court documents.

Daryn Edwards, 59, faces three charges, including sexual performance of a child, aggravated sexual assault, and possession of child pornography. He’s a 32-year veteran of HPD and served as the captain of the auto theft division. Last month, HPD said on social media that Edwards had been relieved of duty pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

The League City Police Department initially arrested Edwards on the child pornography charge on Feb. 19. He was released on bond and arrested a second time on Feb. 20 for the sexual performance of a child and aggravated sexual assault charges. On March 5, he was released from the Galveston County Jail on a $1 million bond.

The majority of the incidents Edwards is accused of took place in League City, according to court documents.
